Scope Statement

 

Project Title: Project Management Site Project

Date:     January 29, 2008   Prepared by: Gene Leshinsky, Project Manager

Project Justification: Dr. Sponsor has requested a project that will update and augment current site functionalities of the BU project management site. The site needs to be exciting and contain informative content to further the needs of the BU project management student body. The project also aims to propose a number of interesting add ons to the main site. The project needs to be completed by March 3, 2008.

Product Characteristics and Requirements:

1.      The website will have a contact form that will allow students to register with the site and provide updated contact info that will be stored in a database.

2.      Backend content management system: Easy access to the registrant information. The control panel will also enable the administrator to easily integrate functionalities that will be added to the site in due time.

3.      Improved visual design: Making use of CSS and new banners graphic techniques.

4.      A database that collects and stores information about student members accurately.

5.      Engaging Content: A mission statement, benefits and incentives of the program and certification. Program objectives and requirements. Courses offered and the duration of the program.

6.      Event reminder & Calendar (ie: graduation date, class drop off date, assignment due date, etc)

7.      Weather forecast reminder (ie: on the “graduation date”, it will be raining make sure to bring your umbrella)

8.      New member invitation feature (to increase more members)

9.      Ice breaker features to help members make friends (ie: http://icebreaker.mobi/crushorflush.htm)

10. Job Board (internal – jobs that have not been publicized)

11. Functionality customization feature (once logged in, members are allowed to customize the desired widget/feature)

12. The site should have a blog such as the one we are using for communication ( www.boston-recruiting.com)

13. The site should have advertising space for Ad sense to raise money for site maintenance (https://www.google.com/adsense/)

14. A Survey widget to poll student opinions on various issues

15. A news widget that will have a compilation of RSS feeds from various PMP related sites

16. A discussion board, not a blog, one that will have various topics that can be

17. A photo gallery of BU PMP events a section for a gallery that enables users to view either it in slide show mode or plain view.

20. A page dedicated to select PMI “Best Practices” as well as links to other PM sites

Summary of Project Deliverables

Project management-related deliverables: business case, charter, team contract, scope statement, WBS, schedule, cost baseline, status reports, final project presentation, final project report, lessons-learned report, and any other documents required to manage the project.

Product-related deliverables:

  1. Gather specific requirements for the internal working of the web site as well as the desired functionalities.
  2. Create UML systems analysis models, such as Use Case Model diagrams and Domain Model diagrams.
  3. Designing the ERD. As we identify entities that haven’t been considered in the Domain Model, we can go back and add them.
  4. Create graphics design for the new site. Create some preliminary screen mock-ups for the web site.
  5. Implement the ERD into the database
  6. Create the Form and connect it to the database
  7. QA the form by entering 25 candidate records via the form and performing various actions on the records from the form.
  8. Create a mock content management system for the admin.
  9. Create the WBS and cost estimates for each of the proposed add ons
  10. Document every step and process of the project from the kickoff meeting to the final project presentation
  11. Create a clean proposal that will be included in the project plans and ideas on how to implement the proposal
  12. Conduct assessment of the team and the project and report on the lessons learned
  13. Internet site design: An initial design of the enhanced internet site will include a site map, Admin Page, suggested layout formats, and appropriate graphics. The final design will incorporate comments from users and faculty mentor (facilitator) on the initial design.
  14. Website security: The enhanced internet site will have build-in security enhancement features (public key encryption technique and access control) to protect membership personal information and database integrity.
  15. Test plan: The test plan will emphasize on website functionality and website security. The test plan will document what is being tested, how the specify feature will be tested, who will do the testing, and how bugs will be reported.

 

Project Success Criteria: The project will be successful if we deliver the technical aspect of the project as well as a complete project documentation package and receive an “A”. This package will consist of all the project management related deliverables as well as detailed proposal for the implementation of various add on functionalities. The more creative and thorough we are the better chance of getting an “A”.
